The Summer Distance Project

A Western Mass Training Camp for Intermediate High School Runners

Summer Training Camp

Summer 2026 · WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

A training camp for intermediate high school cross country runners ready to build endurance, speed, and confidence before the fall season.

Whether you’re aiming to shave time off your PR or build a stronger base for the upcoming season, this camp gives you personalized training, structured group workouts, and the kind of team energy that makes summer miles actually fun.

The Program

Your Plan

Every athlete meets one-on-one with Coach Staples to set goals and build a customized training plan based on your current fitness and your races.

Train Together

Two sessions per week — Tuesdays and Fridays — covering speedwork, hills, long runs, and threshold work. The group pushes you; the plan keeps it yours.

Race Ready

Warm-ups, cool-downs, strength, nutrition, and mental strategies — so nothing surprises you on race day.

Coach Staples

Coach Staples has been coaching the Longmeadow High School cross country team since 2012 — long enough to see what separates athletes who improve from athletes who plateau. This camp exists because summer training is where that difference gets made.

As a masters runner himself, he competes across all distances and terrain, from marathons to mountain races. He knows what it takes to train through a New England summer and actually show up ready in September.
